Florida Medicare Supplemental Insurance

Posted by:  :  Category: Medicare

If you live in Florida and have basic Medicare health coverage, you may find that you have to pay more for your health care costs than you can afford. Because there are certain health needs that Medicare does not cover, private insurance companies are able to offer two different customized options that Medicare users can purchase to help lower the cost of health care. Medigap insurance pays some additional costs, such as co-pays and deductibles, and may also cover services not covered or fully covered by Medicare. Medicare Advantage are totally custom and cover as much or as little of your costs as you choose. You must have Medicare in order to qualify for Medigap.

Virginia Medicare Supplement Plans - Compare Virginia Medigap Plans

Insurance companies selling Virginia Medigap plans may not use medical underwriting during certain periods of time. Each Virginia Medicare beneficiary has a Medigap Open Enrollment Period, which lasts for six months and begins on the first day of the month that he/she is both 65 years or older and enrolled in Medicare Part B. During this time, insurance companies may not require a health screening to decide whether to accept a Medigap policy application or to charge higher premiums. After this enrollment period, beneficiaries can enroll in Medigap at any time and be subjected to medical underwriting unless they qualify for guaranteed issue rights under a special circumstance. Examples of special circumstances would be when an employment or retirement health plan terminates coverage or a beneficiary moves of a Medigap plan’s service area.

Virginia Division for the Aging

As the Baby Boom generation races toward traditional retirement age, the number of older adults in Virginia will reach 1.8 million by 2030 ? more than double that population in 2000. Recognizing the coming ?Age Wave,? the 2008 Virginia General Assembly expanded the duties of the Virginia Division for the Aging by mandating a four-year planning process for aging services in collaboration with a workgroup of aging advocates, educators, service providers, and state agency representatives. The initial 2009 Virginia?s Four-Year Plan for Aging Services: Across the Continuum ? Across the Commonwealth presents a comprehensive picture of where we need to go to effectively meet the needs and leverage the human resources of Virginia?s rapidly aging population. The 2011 Biennial Progress Report serves as an addendum and reflects the steps that have been taken to move forward with the workgroup?s recommendations. For more on Virginia’s future, such as federally-mandated planning and work related to agency advisory boards, visit our Plans & Reports page.

Comparing Medicare HMO, PPO, & POS Plans

HMO plans cover health care services provided within a network of contracted physicians and hospitals. Except for emergencies, these plans do not cover care received outside the network. If you have a doctor that you want to keep seeing, then it’s important to make sure that doctor is “in-network” for any HMO you’re considering. Most HMOs require you to have or choose a primary care physician (PCP) in the plan network. Your PCP provides general medical care and authorizes referrals to in-network specialists.

Medicare Dental Insurance

Dental insurance coverage is one of the most common questions for seniors after they settle their Medicare Supplemental Insurance and Medicare Part D coverage. "How about dental" almost always follows the Medicare Supplement Insurance, and drug plan enrollment. Unfortunately Medicare has no dental insurance coverage. Discount Dental plans, Dental, Vision, and Hearing combinations, or Dental only plans are available in most areas. We believe the first and second choice provide the best value. The following information will help you compare these two options.

Does Medicare Insurance Cover Dental?

There are some circumstances when Medicare does cover dental services. In some cases, Medicare Part A will cover dental services that you receive while you are in the hospital, such as when you need a complicated procedure that requires hospitalization. Dental services are also covered if they are part of another covered service, such as when you require facial reconstruction after an accident. In general, Medicare will only cover dental services if the non-covered dental services are required as a result of receiving a covered service; if a covered service can only be performed with the non-covered service; and both procedures are performed by the same Medicare-approved dentist. Medicare will also cover the extraction of teeth to prepare the jaw for radiation treatment associated with cancer, and a dental exam prior to a kidney transplant.

Is There a Dental Plan for Medicare Patients?

Original Medicare specifically excludes most dental work, such as cleanings, fillings and dentures. There are exceptions, and Medicare Part A covers dental services that you receive in the hospital related to another illness. Medicare also may cover basic hospital care if you’re admitted as an inpatient because of a dental emergency. In addition, some Medicare Advantage plans offer more dental coverage than original Medicare.

Dental Coverage Under Medicare

For complete dental coverage, you can shop online at www.ehealthinsurance.com to learn about and buy an individual dental insurance plan that fits your personal needs. You may also have group dental insurance available, if either you or your spouse is employed. Be sure to read the plans carefully. Some dental plans require you to stay within a network of dental care providers. The premiums may be a bit higher for this type of plan, but the costs are offset by lower out-of-pocket fees, like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles, mainly because network dentists usually agree to charge discounted rates to members of the dental plan. Other plans let you go to any licensed dental professional, but you may have to pay more at the time of service.

FL Medicare Plan Wins 5 Stars

The state has such a competitive market that many plans charge no premium, including CarePlus’ five-star plans and some other companies’ plans that won 4 1/2 stars. In fact, in some counties plans with high ratings even reimburse Medicare beneficiaries for some of their Part B monthly premium of $104.90 — a deal that’s almost unheard-of elsewhere in the country.
